2019 Kia e-Niro

Kia Niro is already available as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, but now Kia is going all the way with electrification. After a concept-car tease at CES 2018 and an overseas unveiling, the all-electric 2019 Kia Niro EV finally makes its United States debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Niro EV uses a 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, with an electric drive motor good for 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque. According to Kia, 2019 Niro EV is equipped with a Combined Charging Standard (CCS). DC fast-charging system that can recharge to 80% capacity in 75 minutes. Also, adds 100 miles of range in 30 minutes. Charging from a more common Level 2 AC source takes substantially longer, making it 9.5 hours to fully charge.

To help preserve battery power, there are four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport and Eco+. Drivers can also select the strength of the car’s regenerative braking by pulling paddles on the steering wheel.

Cargo space in the Niro EV is a useful 18.5 cubic feet with the back seats up and 53.0 with them down.

The car is expected to costs from 30,000€ το 40,000€. Although, the automaker will announce the final price closer to the car’s launch.

Aside from the all-electric motor, the Niro EV is similar to the other versions of Kia’s pseudo-crossover. So the Niro EV gets an available 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A host of driver aids including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and a driver attention monitor.

The exact UK specifications of the e-Niro are yet to be decided, however; we were testing a Korean-market model.

Space wise, it’s also as we know it from other Niros. The Niro has a tall roof but a low overall height. The rear of the car provides plenty of head and leg room, even for taller adults.
